Lakshmi Singh is the midday newscaster for NPR. A former contributor to NPR’s Latino USA, Singh is passionate about issues that affect Hispanics today. Daughter of a Puerto Rican mother and a Trinidadian father, Singh personal family story and her biracial and bicultural background allowed her to hold a different perspective when covering many immigrant community stories. Among the stories that she has shared with more than 30 million listeners are the infamous sniper shootings in D.C., ICE raids to immigrant communities, and in-depth feature reporting on immigration from both sides of the border. She joined NPR’s award-winning Newscast Unit in 2000.
